The elves that lived in the silver lining centuries upon centuries ago; did not want people to find it. The cursed desert is an endless stretch of darkness and ground that is completely depleted of water and most life. But it wasn't recorded in the earliest of maps, because in all actuality it was created by the first and most powerful elves.
The silver lining is where many magical creatures are born, because it is one of the last places on earth untouched by people. Not a tree has been cut, not a bit of water contaminated. It's filled with magic, and of course, power. Abilities are stronger here, and people live longer. It's why elves live such long lives; they carry a part of this land's magic with them even after moving away.
Think of it as an ongoing plot (: Getting here is a bit of a challenge if you don't know about it. Getting out is as well; but of course, there will be exceptions and such.
The floating castle can't be reached just yet, but there will be a plot that gives the place more life as the site gets bigger and things get rolling <3
