BIOGRAPHY:
The reputation of Drakon’s royal family has long since been tarnished by the former King’s past infidelities, and therefore the origins of a handful of his children – legitimate and illegitimate alike – remain muddled or entirely uncertain. It shouldn’t come as a shock then, for someone to shrug off the parentage of Drakon’s only princess. Both her youth and gender prevent her from candidacy for the throne and due to this; her very presence is often dismissed or forgotten. A sad and lonely existence to be sure, although she would much rather be left to her own devices than tormented by her brothers.
Born in early winter and often overlooked by her appointed caretakers meant that Melisande frequently grew ill and weak. However she never succumbed to her deteriorating health and instead fought to grow into the vibrant young woman she is today. She has since developed an admirable mental resilience, having spent the majority of her childhood learning to deflect verbal abuse she suffered at the hands of her siblings as well as the mild neglect of her servants who didn’t consider her quite as a priority as the young and indulgent Princes.
Slowly she matured, and inevitably those who had once turned their cheek to her began to notice and appreciate these newfound changes. She shed her ungainly appearance, ultimately inheriting her mother’s beauty and elegance. Her wit was sharp and her vast knowledge impressive. She’d had nothing else but her studies with which to distract herself as a youngster, and apparently it had more than paid off. She has an extensive vocabulary and uses it well. Being able to speak so concisely and with such passion intrigued those around her. Suddenly they began to take her more seriously and now treat her with the respect she deserves.
Although she is not a contender for the rule of Drakon, it is obvious that – regardless – she would make an outstanding leader in any situation. It is only a matter of time before the people witness how she will act. And for who.

PERSONALITY:
Despite the fact that Melisande appears frail and delicate, the young Princess has established a very vocal, very strong personality. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind when the occasion calls for it … even when it hasn’t she usually gets a word or two in. She is also incredibly stubborn, something she took from her father, and will remain rooted to her stance on any matter – significant or not – and will not be swayed by any amount of convincing or charm. Obviously she is not always right, but even when she has acknowledge that, it will still take quite a lot of effort to get her to apologize or admit defeat. It isn’t surprising therefore that she has many opinions and will give them voice any time she feels it has been called for.
Melisande is also something of a feminist, harbouring a mild disdain or skepticism where men are concerned. This likely stems from the merciless bullying she endured from her brothers and the failures of her father, the King. She believes he was a very poor, undisciplined and selfish ruler and can’t see any of her brothers being an improvement. They are all intolerant of others, inconsiderate of their people and over-indulgent. None of their interests lie in bettering the Kingdom and none of them seem to have any real interest in politics. Unfortunately she has come to terms with the fact that she will never be in a position of power and authority, and that her title is purely superficial.
However, that doesn’t mean she has stopped her scheming. She also realizes she is not necessarily restricted to Drakon’s borders and has been considering paying a visit to their reluctant neighbour for some time. Not that anyone else is aware of this of course.
Despite her sneaky ways, Melisande is generally a very kind-hearted and warm person. She understands that a ruler needs his or her people to successfully create and maintain a thriving Kingdom. The working class are the heart of Drakon and she realizes that without them, they would be nothing but a group of arrogant and spoiled politicians who can hardly defend themselves without the aid of their highly-paid military force. The population of the lower class outnumbers nobility ten to one, so if they were to have an uprising on their hands, it would go very badly for the Corvidus family.
That is why Melisande goes to great lengths to treat others – regardless of their rank – with the utmost respect. She has even taken to walking among the common streets and buying from vendors.
This of course is very much condemned by her peers and has prompted many heated arguments with her brothers who claim she is destroying their integrity and causing the hold they have over their people to slip. Her kindness is only outweighed by her generosity and she is extremely sympathetic to less fortunate families, especially those with young children. She does what she can for them without overstepping her lines and trodding on the King’s toes.
It is only so long before she grows tired of limiting her actions for the sake of the royal family’s image however. Or will the new King send her into exile and rid the Kingdom of their rebellious Princess for good?
ABILITY: Melisande's main ability is her skill as a fierce public speaker and diplomat. However she is also quite good at painting, singing and dancing.
